Solution Justification 
 

The design Selection Matrix was established to test the merits of the four existing designs, as well as my four solutions to the problem. The Yard Mess Eraser, while still in concept stage, proved to be the best product, scoring 80 out of 90 possible points.​

 

Consequently, the Yard Mess Eraser was justified as the best solution to the problem of rapidly, and efficiently cleaning yards. 

 

Appropriately, my mentor, Joseph Fan, after hearing about my ideas, sent a brief email with his suggestions for my project: “That was a good start on a problem that many people faces. When working on this problem, you may want gather some information on what causes the mess after maintenance activities. Is it the grass clipping, putting back lawn decorations, dealing with the fallen branch/tree or simply the cleaning of the tools used that causes the post maintenance burden. From this data, it can help you to focus on the problem(s) you want to tackle.”

 

Mr. Fan also offered specific suggestions to increase the validity of my design, many of which were taken. “ For Safety, you may want to add AUTO KILL SWITCH in the unlikely event that hands or limbs did got captured by the equipment….” Overall, his opinion was very receptive of the idea in nature, but offered criticisms of certain specifics. These criticisms were addressed when product construction began.
